Warning: Homeless Man Discovered Fentanyl-Tainted Pills at Venice Beach

On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Venice Beach, a homeless individual, who wished to remain anonymous, approached Santa Monica Closeup to issue a public safety announcement. The individual reported discovering potentially dangerous pills buried in the sand.

According to the individual, while walking along the beach and digging in his usual spot, he uncovered eight small, oval pills that appeared orange or brown in color. The pills were marked with an "A" on one side and "9-0" on the other. After researching online, the individual initially identified the pills as antidepressants. However, after using a fentanyl test strip provided by the Venice Family Clinic, it was revealed that the pills contained fentanyl—a highly potent synthetic opioid.

The individual warned that nefarious distributors might be circulating counterfeit pharmaceuticals laced with fentanyl in the Los Angeles area. He emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant, especially when visiting the beach with children, and urged the public to report any suspicious findings to the authorities.

The individual also mentioned that he informed the police, who are aware of the situation and are taking appropriate action. He stressed the importance of community awareness and safety, encouraging beachgoers to be cautious and use test kits available at local clinics if they come across any suspicious substances.

The anonymous individual concluded his statement by expressing his commitment to keeping the beaches safe and responsibly sharing this information with the public.
